Teen dies when airborne car hits pole

A 16-year-old girl died and a 16-year-old boy was hospitalized after the car in which they were riding spun out of control, went airborne and hit a power pole before landing on its roof Monday afternoon in Beaver Dam, according to information provided by the Dodge County Sheriff's Department. According to a news release issued by the department:

The boy, a Beaver Dam resident, was driving south at high speed on Shaw Hill Road near Parker Road when the crash occurred about 3 p.m. The boy was taken to a Beaver Dam hospital before being flown by helicopter to University Hospital in Madison. The girl, also a resident of Beaver Dam, was partially ejected from the car and was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity had not yet been released.In addition to speed, the failure to use seat belts was a factor in the crash, the release says.
