As you will note, the title to this blog entry has been changed.
Maria Hanrahan felt that it was "inflammatory" and "un-Christian" for me to imply that she felt porn books are okay for kids.
In recognition of this statement, and that she felt it was a painful choice of words, I have changed the title of the blog to reflect that Maria shares her opinion, and nothing more.
I hope that this, and my apology, makes amends.
Maria actually did quite a good job of representing her viewpoint.
While the end result of "doing nothing" and leaving the pornographic books in place lends creed to the opinion that it is okay for kids to read these books, Maria does not promote this practice with her own children or recommend that others do.
Thank you, Ginny. While I am certain we will continue to disagree with each other's opinion on this issue, I hope we will also continue to to respect other's right to voice her opinion.
With regard to your "doing nothing" comment, I do not consider these books to be pornographic, and this is why I don't believe anything should be done. You are saying that these books don't belong in the YA section because they are pornographic, but by that logic, you are saying that it IS okay for the library to carry pornography, as long as it is in the adult section....?

Once again, my apologies to Maria.
