Formal complaint filed against WB Library - Gay website for KIDS

A West Bend resident is challenging whether the West Bend Community Memorial Library Web site should include a link to a list of fiction and non-fiction book about gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender issues intended for young adults in grades 6 through 12.

A complaint, filed by Ginny Maziarka, will be discussed at the Library Board’s monthly meeting in March.

When called at his home for comment, Library Board vice-president Tom Fitz said he had no knowledge of the Web site page. Maziarka tried to have the issue discussed at the Library Board’s February meeting, but her e-mail request to be placed on the agenda was submitted too late. “She was too late by state statutes, so I am going to ask the Library Board to please have it on the agenda in March,” West Bend Community Library Director Michael Tyree said.

Correction: Maziarka did not try to have this issue discussed at the Feb. meeting. No request was made other than asking for accountability and removal of the website.
MARK BELLING discusses this in his podcast from 2/4/2009 and has a link to the website on his home page: http://www.belling.com/
